Outfit: Guest Post

Today I am very happy to announce that I will be guest posting over at The Stork & The Beanstalk.

I discovered this amazing blog shortly after having Berlin and instantly fell in love, it’s truly one of my favorite blogs. Ashley (the incredible creator, writer, and photographer of the blog) is absolutely adorable, so very talented and always has me in stitches.

Unfortunately she just underwent an insane back surgery and is at home recovering. So please stop by her blog and give her your warm wishes-and do stay for awhile to read her beautiful posts-you will be happy you did.

Here are a few outtakes I had from the photo shoot, however please check out the real winners over at Ashley’s blog.

I did this photo shoot back in August, so my outfit is not very winter friendly (although it is still 65 degrees here!), so I apologize in advance that this outfit is not so wearable across most of the country.

However I would strongly advise buying these boots-I absolutely LOVE them, and they can be worn year round!

Thanks again to Ashley for having me over at her blog, I hope to have her grace the pages of my blog one day soon.

I’m in love with all things bohemian and Moroccan inspired as of late and plan on working this trend well into fall.  These pants from Urban are crazy comfortable and light weight enough for summer or early fall (plus I just noticed they went on sale at Urban, so snatch them up!). Enjoy your day.

How We Wear It: Berlin Goes Flamingo

Denim Jacket, Levi’s-Playsuit, Zara-Shoes, Vans

Berlin turned eleven months a few days ago, its unbelievable that she is almost a year old already!  It’s funny, but in my mind I pictured her running around, talking, and {basically} being a little adult all by the age of one.  I guess this is reality for some one year olds, but for my little Berlin this is not so true.

She is still resisting the whole crawling thing.  She scoots on her booty and pushes herself around backwards while on her belly, but refuses to get up on all fours.  She recently learned to sit herself up while in crawl position by hunching on her back legs like a frog and sitting back up. She does this every time I put her on her belly, basically refusing to crawl.  Let’s just call her stubborn.

In other news, Berlin (finally) got her first tooth last week-woot woot!  She was a bit fussy and would do this weird moan during the middle of the night (poor thing), but all in all she was a trooper.  Now only 19 more to go!

BTW-Zara is having their end of season sale right now, so if you love their baby clothes like I do, get on over!

How We Wear It: Jenna and Anika

I’m happy to introduce my guest mama this month; Jenna and her sweet daughter Anika

What’s keeping you busy lately?

We are moving to New York in a few weeks, and have a lot to accomplish before we leave. Packing has been a great way to really reassess the things we are carrying around with us. It is so refreshing to give away as much as we can and downsize, we are only keeping the things we need and love. We will miss San Francisco and all the amazing people we have met here. We look forward to our next adventure…raising a toddler in New York City!

What’s the latest with your little one?

Anika is on the verge of walking, she is full of energy and loves to talk! The best part of my day is when I walk through the door and see her smiling face, she is old enough now to bounce up and down and say “Mama, Mama”! It is just the best.

What do you wish you could accomplish that you never seem to get done?

Yoga. I really miss it and hope to start practicing again-as soon as I clear away the boxes and have some floor space! I also wish I spent more time cooking healthy meals for my family. There was a time, that feels too long ago, when I explored Indian cooking, joined a CSA and experimented with new veggies and really switched up our menu. Things have become much more simplified, quick, and a bit boring to say the least. Anika and I don’t eat meat, so we are a bit limited and need some creative thinking to keep things exciting. The new challenge is to make fresh, healthy meals become fast and simple. There must be a way!!

How would you describe your fashion style?  Would you say it differs from pre-baby?

Not really. I have always admired women who exude a strong and unique sense of style. I tend not to be so exciting. My personal style has had many many incarnations, when I was pregnant I pretty much lived in black leggings, black tops, and combat boots. If I had to describe my style, I would say classic (read: black basics) with a boho, vintage, or feminine twist depending on my mood.

Is Motherhood what you thought it would be?

Motherhood is incredible. I so completely adore my daughter, and enjoy her more and more every day…I now understand why my friends have said that motherhood just gets better and better. Getting to know this little girl is so much fun! I have been so lucky to have an amazing husband to help care for her while I am at the office, it has been a balancing act that I could never have done without him!

On Jenna: Dress, D&G-Cuff, Vintage

On Anika: Shorts & Top, Chloe

I had the pleasure of working with Jenna at my last company.  She is a joy to be around, always wearing a great big smile and possessing a great attitude.

I’ll be sad to see her leave San Francisco, but she is on to great things and I’m so very happy for her!  Congrats on the new job and big move Jenna, we will miss you guys much!

Happy Friday! I don’t know about you, but I’m so looking forward to this weekend.  It’s going to be a beautiful, sunny weekend in the city and we plan to enjoy lots of family time.

So I’m totally obsessed with all things denim and jumpsuits lately, hence the denim jumper.  In all honesty I’ve always been in love with jumpsuits-of all kinds, so this really comes as no surprise.  I want to buy every jumpsuit I see lately, so plan to see lots more in the near future!

How We Wear It: Kate Plus Two

I am blessed to have a group of truly amazing and talented women in my life, many of whom are now mothers.  I wanted to take the opportunity to highlight these wonderful women by introducing a monthly feature in my blog.  Starting off the series is my beautiful friend Kate and her two adorable daughters.  I do hope you enjoy meeting these wonderful families.

Please meet Kate, Evie and Iris

What’s keeping you busy lately?

The warm weather has been keeping us outdoors.  We spend a lot of time at the beach and parks.  There is a small zoo at a park nearby that the girls love to go to.  They have small animals the girls love holding – particularly the bunnies and guinea pigs.  There is also a great farm down the street that we enjoy visiting.  Every season they have different activities, for spring it’s strawberry tours.  I look forward to taking them soon.  Tomorrow we are going to a butterfly house at our local environmental nature center.  The girls are going to be over the moon with excitement.  I can’t wait to see their faces.

What’s the latest with your little ones?

Evie, my eldest, is talking up a storm.  She is absolutely hilarious.  Her favorite saying lately is, “two more minutes.”  She is quite the negotiator. She is a kid that is full of joy, and when you get her giggling she snorts.  When you throw her in the air she always wants more.  She will be three next month and she is VERY excited about her party.  She already has a list of who she wants to invite and continuously reminds me her birthday is in June (and that Grandpa and Grandma are coming).  On Mother’s Day she told me (with no prompting from papa) that she thought my dress was very pretty.  I told her “thank you” and she responded “you’re welcome, mama.”  So precious.  It’s crazy to me how grown-up & thoughtful she has become.  It’s hard not to see her as a jolly chubby baby.  Iris will be a 1 1/2 in May and I still can’t believe that she is a toddler.  She seems to get taller by the minute.  She is very chatty as well, but we can’t understand most of what she is saying yet.  It’s adorable to see how confident she is with her words though.  She wants to do everything her sister does and as a result is growing up way too fast.  She climbs the highest ladder at the park and wants to go down the biggest slide.  She also is in love with the ocean.  She plays in the waves and has no fear.  Animals and nature are definitely her passion.   She’s always preferred napping outside and her first words have all been animal names.  She squeals with excitement when she sees pretty much any creature.  She loves to snuggle and be close to others, a special treat.

What do you wish you could accomplish that you never seem to get done?

Oh boy, there are so many things.  The one thing I hope to get back to doing is making my own yogurt and nut milks.  When it was just Evie and me home during the day or even when Iris was little, I was very good about making yogurt once a week and almond or pistachio milk twice a week.  Both taste so much better than store bought and are very easy to make.  It’s just takes fitting it into the routine of the week.

How would you describe your fashion style?  Would you say it differs from pre-baby?

My goal is always to look good, but avoid appearing contrived.  Kate Moss, Alexa Chung, Miranda Kerr, Edie Sedgwick, Marianne Faithfull, and Jane Birkin, are a handful of beauties I think have mastered looking effortlessly cool. Their style has a huge influence on my personal aesthetic. I don’t think my style has changed much post baby, however I do think there was a shift somewhere in my late 20’s.  I loved all things edgy in my youth.  No skirt was too short, no top too torn.  I’ve moved away from that.  You are welcome world!

Is Motherhood what you thought it would be?

Everything about being a mom has blown my mind.  It is amazing.  There are days that I feel like the luckiest lady and then there are other days that I wonder what the heck I’m doing.  Being a mom is extremely humbling, so when I have hard days it’s easy to look back on my professional career and think “I used to be respected & important (sigh) those were the days”.   Most of the time I do my best to put it all into perspective.  They are only little once, they are only going to need my undivided attention for such a short time, and then soon enough they will be independent little people (hopefully) functioning in the world.  I’m sure I will miss all of the little things I currently find difficult on a day-to-day basis.  Seeing the girls smile, playing together, giggling, discovering a new skill, or sleeping peacefully are things that make it totally worth it.  It’s a feeling I never knew existed before I had kids.  Complete and undying love.  I’m hooked, for sure.

How We Wear It: Spring is in the Air

Baby Laughing

This smile melts my heart, and the way she curls her little toes…oh my goodness!

One more, I couldn’t resist!

On Berlin: Playsuit, Splendid

On Sunday I decided to take on way too much. For some reason I think I’m Supermom and try to juggle five things at once. Not only did I want to take photos that day, but I also decided simultaneously to have friends and family over for a BBQ. So I was cleaning, preparing the food, and racing to get everything done before Berlin’s insanely early bedtime of 6:30 PM.  Sadly the only door to our back patio is through Berlin’s room, so all had to be wrapped up before the witching hour. I will proudly say I accomplished it all, but it was not without stress and some running around (and I only partly completed my outfit-but that’s how moms roll!). But it was all worth it in the end because I got some adorable shots of Berlin-she is such the perfect subject.
